President & CEO
Anthony Spero has more than 20 years of experience in healthcare sales, management and operations within the acute and post-acute healthcare industries. As president of Ascend, he leads the company’s multi-state operation focused on providing best-in-class hospice, home health and concierge home care services. Previously, Mr. Spero worked as the National Vice President of Sales at Golden Living and also as the Regional Director of Kindred Healthcare. Mr. Spero received his master’s degree in healthcare administration and his MBA in finance from Suffolk University. He is a licensed nursing home administrator and is most proud of his employment as a certified nursing assistant completed very early on in his healthcare career.
Executive Vice President of Patient Access
Sareen Sarna has more than 20 years of healthcare experience in the areas of professional development, marketing and direct sales and management. As a visionary strategist and leader, her role at Ascend Health is threefold- overseeing managed care, programs, and care transitions. All of these serve to increase accessibility to hospice, home health, and concierge home care divisions. Through education, social media and program development, her goal is to identify and solve business-critical challenges, strengthen relationships with our healthcare partners, and assist our numerous teams in providing best-in-class programs and services to patients and their families.
Sareen analyzes the need for care programs and underserved populations at end of life. Working with Business Development and Clinical, these programs differentiate Ascend Health from other hospice and home care organizations. She is accountable for program launches and their success measured by increasing access to patients.
Prior to joining Ascend Health, Ms. Sarna had a long and successful career with Bristol-Myers Squibb. She was responsible for creating and implementing the sales and marketing plans for several divisions, from pediatrics to long-term care. Ms. Sarna’s other past positions include Regional Director of Sales for Benchmark Senior Living and Vice President of Care Transitions at Beacon Hospice, a division of Amedisys Hospice and Homecare.
Vice President of Human Resources
Cristina began her career with the CareOne family in 2010 and held various positions in the Human Resources Department. In her roles, she supported the department by implementing comprehensive best practices related to employee relations, streamlining Workers Compensation and FMLA process and procedure, developed training new team members and new managers across all disciplines, and supported the company through many transitions. In July 2017, Cristina joined the Partners Pharmacy and Ascend Health leadership teams as the Vice President of Human Resources.
Cristina attended Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey where she obtained her B.A. in History and she is a Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP).
Vice President of Finance
Gerard Bernardi has more than 20 years of leadership experience in accounting, finance and operations. As Vice President of Finance & Controller of Ascend Health he manages the finances and supports the operations of the company’s multi state hospice, home health and concierge home care services where best-in-class care is a priority. Gerard is a transformational leader who has a proven track record of enhancing revenue streams and implementing cost controls. He also prides himself on being customer centric and understands the importance of strong communication and collaboration.
Prior to joining Ascend Health, Mr. Bernardi had a successful career in the auto industry where he held various finance and operations related leadership roles.
